Yes Mr. Miller you were the first to bend it. You went to get burgers and beer while I was on quarterdeck watch and your first words upon returning, very late, were " I got three quotes"

It was never the worse for wear. We always had a car between us in Charleston.

It was pretty easy to save money at sea so when I returned from the Med I bought my first car at Merrick Chevrolet. 1968 Chevelle SS, Malibu, 4 on the floor, bench seat, yellow. I flew up to Berea and drove it back to Charleston, SC, where my ship was, in one day.

In '65, I got a $250 VW Bug. I don't know what year it was, and I didn't drive it but a few times before the brakes went out and I couldn't stop at the intersection of West and Lindberg. I ended up in the farmer's field because there were cars ahead of me. I didn't like that car anyway because I didn't like sitting so low. It was almost like sitting on the floor. The original lowrider. LOL

You guys had pretty fancy wheels! Mine was a 56 Chevy (in 1967), green and white, body was in good shape, but it used more oil than it did gas! I used to go to Zayres and buy it by the case. I can remember being all dressed up to go out and having to stop and put oil in my car. Open up that hood and pour in a couple quarts! Fun times!

Brings back memories, as my was a 65 TR4-irs, ofn course Brtish racing green, accented with wire wheels. Had it during college and until the kids out grew the cargo area behind the bucket seats. Often thought of buying another, but that would only make me feel aged, driving a classic.

I thought it would be fun to tell about our first car! Mine was a 1959 Triumph TR3, I think I paid $600 for it. I can't remember where I bought it but I know I had it repainted light blue and I think the paint is what kept it together! Drove it for a year or so and that started a long list of high school and college cars!
