I moved to Georgia in 1970 and have been here ever since. I'm about 60 miles Northeast of Atlanta. It's a wonderful place to live.
I worked for EDS (Electronic Data Systems) for 21 years but was laid off in January '05 due to a workforce reduction. I became a Technical Writer consultant for a couple of years but am now employed by CIBA Vision (contact lenses)since July 2008. With so many people losing their jobs these days, I felt very fortunate to get hired at the age of 61. I was the Documentation Specialist / Document Librarian and I managed all of the IT documents. That probably sounds boring to a lot of people but it suits me because it was very detail oriented and I got to interact with people all over the world. CIBA Vision was merged with Alcon in 2012, and the parent company decided to relocate corporate headquarters to Fort Worth, Texas. I did not want to relocate but was allowed to do my job (working remotely from home) until July 2014, when everyone was required to relocate or be separated from the company. After that, I accepted a couple of short term contracts and will be starting another one in January 2017, creating document templates for a company in New York (another remote assignment).
One of these days I'll get around to retiring for good.... if the market recovers and the government doesn't redistribute all of my 'wealth'.
I was married briefly at the age of 21 but I'm very independent and didn't stay married for long. Divorced at the age of 22 and chose not to remarry or have children. I have 2 dogs and also feed a couple of feral cats.
I love to crochet, embroider, and write/publish/design documents on my computer.
