February 18, 2010

Dear members of the BHS Class of 1965,

On behalf of the organizing group of our classmates who are trying to plan a reunion this fall to mark 45 years since we graduated, we are writing you to determine the best date for the reunion.

Plans are developing for a full weekend of activities, starting on Friday night (a gathering with on-your-own drinks and food at a local restaurant followed by a home football game), Saturday afternoon activities at down town Berea venues, Coe Lake, or in the Metro Park, Saturday night banquet and an Oldies but Goodies dance, and a Sunday brunch with a tour of Berea High School. The final details will depend upon how many of us would be able to attend and the final date that is chosen.

The four possible dates that we are considering are:

August 27-29, 2010 Home football game against John Hay

September 3-5, 2010 Labor Day Weekend No football game

October 1-3, 2010 Home football game against Amherst

October 8-10, 2010 Home football game against Avon Lake

Please go to the following website and select all weekends when you will be able to travel to Berea to attend the reunion. We hope to select the weekend and start making detailed plans within two weeks.

We are looking forward to seeing you in the fall for this celebration.

Best wishes,

Tom and Corky Nosek

Hi All

I didn't get to go to the Reunion, so I thank everyone who has posted pictures. BTW!! You ALL look great, and I had to laugh seeing some of you sitting in the old classroom desks. What a flashback, huh?! Anyway, glad to see you all had fun. Blessing to everyone and see you next time!!!

Everyone remembers the Friday night, after the football game dances but do you remember the names of any of the bands?  Do you remember “the Challengers”  “Derry Culver” or “the Johnny Joe Four”?  The names were provided by John Goodworth, thanks John!

On March 19 our  granddaughter, Abigail Rose (and all our family) welcomed Christina Grace to the world. Mom and baby are doing great and so is dad. Grandparents are excited and very happy with our new addition. Uncle Andy is still in NC and will be coming home in June to see her. (Maybe us too) In July he will report to Rockland, Maine for his next duty station.

This spring my book "Others" will be released. It is a collection of verses, poems and prayers I've been collecting over the years. This was inspired by the man I was named for who was killed in action on Okinawa during World War 2. He planned to be a minister, but enlisted in the Army right after Pearl Harbor. This is an exciting and busy time for us. Anyone who may be interested in more information, feel free to contact me.

Busy time for us - with my book "Others" and my column "Joe Average Speaks Out". I've been elected Commander of the American Legion Post in Bowling Green. Kids and granddaughters doing well. Andy is getting married in June. I've had a couple health problems, in August I had a minor stroke. All is fine now, but they found blockages in my heart, and I had by-pass surgery in October. I'm still recovering from that but am doing much better.  Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

The New Year is fully under way. Most of our resolutions have been broken, by now. I never could keep them. My health is returning to normal after my surgery. Still not 100% but working on it. I lost about 4 months with the surgery and recovery.  I am starting to promote my book "Others" - again - if anyone is interested check my web site, www.others.dettmer.com. The book can be ordered through that or directly from me. 419-353-6271. Happy New Year!!

50th reunion in 2015?

Any local (Berea area) class of '65 alumni willing to head up a reunion. I will do what I did the 45th, be the treasurer. We have some money left from last time. And some others will help I am told.

Rick

Hi all,

Wasn't sure how to get the word out on this, so I'll use this Forum. I have a one-bedroom apartment in a two-unit house two blocks from the beach in Huntington Beach, CA. I rent this out by the month ($2000 a month) for vacations and it is a wonderful location. Minutes to the sand, surf, shopping and restaurants. Huntington Beach is in Orange County, midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Twenty minutes from Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. If any of you would be interested in utilizing this for a visit to Southern California, give me a call. Would love to see you and catch up. My telephone number is 714-767-5267.

BHS Class of 1965

Reunion 2020

Dear graduates of the Berea High School Class of 1965,

Wednesday, June 10th, 2020 marks the 55th year since we graduated from Berea High School.  Over the winter, there were discussions regarding a get-together to celebrate this milestone and to also take a tour of the High School before they tear it down.

The restrictions put in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic stopped that planning.

HOWEVER, there is no reason why we cannot have a Zoom reunion.

Therefore, on Wednesday, June 10th, 2020, starting at 3:00 PM Eastern Time, and again on Saturday, June 13th, 2020 starting at 7:00 PM Eastern Time, we will have a reunion over Zoom. Please come to one or both of these gatherings of our classmates to celebrate.

Please contact Tom Nosek by e-mail (tmnosek@aol.com) and let him know which day(s) you would like to participate.  Tom will then send you the Zoom ID that we will use for the BHS Class of 1965 Reunion 2020. An Agenda for the reunion is found below. After we share a couple of videos, we’ll open the microphone to those who would like to share with the whole group where they are living now and possibly one favorite high school memory.  If you would like to speak to the whole group, let Tom know in your e-mail so he can call on you.

Zoom is a free video-conferencing application that you can use on your computer, smart phone, or tablet.  If you do not already have a Zoom account, go to the following web site to open a free account (they will sell you an enhanced account but you do not need one!) and follow the directions:

https://zoom.us/

Five to ten minutes before 3:00 PM Eastern Time on the 10th and 7:00 PM Eastern Time on the 13th, go to the Zoom Sign In web site (https://zoom.us/signin) and log into your account and enter the Zoom ID that Tom will have sent you.

We are using an old mailing list so if you have new addresses for any of our classmates, would you please let Tom know and also go ahead and share this e-mail with them.

The tentative Agenda for Reunion 2020 is:

  1. Welcome
  2. Champagne (or any other beverage that you would like to bring to the party) Toast to the Class of 1965
  3. Viewing through Share Screen on Zoom of a YouTube video of the OLD BHS

Viewing through Share Screen on Zoom of a YouTube video of the NEW BMHS

  1. For those who want to talk to the entire group, there will be a one-minute sharing of where you are living now and one favorite high school memory.  Be sure to let Tom know that you would like to do this so that he can call on you.
  2. Sing the BHS Alma Mater
  3. Open everyone’s microphone and we’ll party until the wee hours of the morning

Before the reunion starts, we can all have our microphones open and say hello to everyone.  Once the program starts, we will mute everyone’s microphone and only open it for those who are conducting the program.  We will call on each person in turn who would like to share something with the group.

This is going to be a different reunion BUT this is going to be fun!!!

The reunion organizers,

Tom and Corky (Wilchek) Nosek (tmnosek@aol.com)

Rick and Diane (Doutt) Langner (fwlangner@yahoo.com)

My high school sweetheart, my soulmate, the love of my life, GEORGE BEHREND, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

We will hold a Celebration of Life at our home church, Redeemer Lutheran - 6151 Smith Rd,  Brook Park OH, on June 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm.

We met in the spring of 1964, when we were on the Junior/Senior Prom decorating committee - - - we helped construct the San Francisco lighthouse in the old gym - - - and every minute since has been pure joy.  George still held his BHS memories and friends close in his heart, and we recently reunited with Villages friends Judy Bonnet and MaryAnn Neurohr.  He ascribed by "Once a Brave, Always a Brave" and is smiling down on us all.
